Gas Leak Guide

A suspected gas leak can be extremely dangerous. If you smell natural gas or believe there may be a gas leak, act immediately to protect yourself and others.

What To Do Immediately

  1. Leave the area immediately.

Move everyone to a safe location away from the building. Do not stop to gather belongings.

  2. Avoid flames and sparks.

Do not light matches or candles, smoke, or operate electrical switches, garage door openers, or electronic devices while inside the building.

  3. Call your gas utility or 911 from a safe location.

If you believe there is an immediate danger, contact your natural gas provider or emergency services after you have safely left the area.

  4. Do not re-enter the building.

Wait until emergency responders or your gas utility tell you it is safe to return.

  5. Contact a Verified Contractor.

After the area has been declared safe, find a Verified Local Plumber through Johnson County Trusted Contractors who can inspect the problem and discuss any necessary repairs.

Safety First

If you suspect a gas leak, personal safety is the priority. Leave the area immediately and follow the instructions of your gas utility or emergency responders before returning to the building.
