Why I started JCTC

Someone needs to ask the difficult questions.

I’m Tom Blair, a Johnson County homeowner and retired Air Force veteran. I started Johnson County Trusted Contractors because I wanted to help protect homeowners by giving them better information and a clearer place to start.

Hiring someone to work on your home can feel uncomfortable. You may forget to ask an important question, or hesitate because you don’t want a contractor to think you distrust them. Questions about insurance, licensing, references, and who will actually perform the work deserve straightforward answers.

I wanted JCTC to help bridge that gap—to ask those questions during our contractor verification process and help homeowners understand what to ask before making a decision.

You should feel comfortable asking questions about the people you invite into your home.

That purpose also led to our Homeowner Resource Center and newsletter. Whether you’re facing an urgent problem, planning routine maintenance, or looking for local help, I want JCTC to be a useful resource you can return to.

We can’t promise that every project will go perfectly. We can make a thoughtful effort to help you prepare, understand your options, and choose with greater confidence.

A clearer starting point

What JCTC Verified means

Before a contractor is publicly listed, we review information about their business through our verification process, including:

  • A completed application and confirmed business contact information.
  • Insurance and licensing, where applicable.
  • Service areas, references or referral sources, and who performs the work.
  • Agreement to our Homeowner Standards.

Verification is a starting point, not a guarantee of workmanship, performance, pricing, or future licensing or insurance status. Homeowners remain responsible for evaluating and selecting the contractor they hire.
